COBRA KAI SEASON 3 REVIEW

The long-awaited season 3 of Cobra Kai is finally coming to Netflix after their two-year run as YouTube Red series. The series was received well by Netflix subscribers and was trending number 1 since day one of its releases. Originally the Cobra Kai season 1 and season 2 were released as YouTube originals where the series garnered good and positive reviews from both the critics and audiences.

Though the show was well-received it didn’t garner the expected results and quietly became an underground series that was loved and received well by its fans. Without incentives for subscribing to YouTube Red, many choose not to add paid streaming service to their wallet.

With Netflix on board, the fans can continue to experience the adventures of the Karate Kid and the Cobra Kai with the upcoming season 3. The show follows the rivalry of the Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) years after the events of the 1984 movie.

The show manages to shine a light on past events and their effects on the characters through flashbacks and memories, helping viewers understand and recall the events of the movie. It does an amazing job even for those who don’t remember or have not watched the karate kid movie.

It has been confirmed that the production was completed before COVID 19 by Josh heald, the co-creator. Speaking in an interview with CBR Josh said “Thankfully, with season 3, we wrapped production before the end of 2019 and we wrapped post-production,".

With only post-production remaining the third season of the show can be expected as early as February 2021.

COBRA KAI SEASON 1

Cobra Kai starts with the life of William Zapka thirty years after the All Valley Karate Tournament, who lives alone in a basement apartment after a failed marriage. Life has been hard for him and the only thing he is good at is Karate and decides to reopen the Cobra Kai Dojo.

Ralph Macchio, the karate kid is leading a good life with his wife and kids only to realize his rival has returned and reopened the infamous Cobra Kai dojo whose methods are questionable.

Tensions arise and the personal and professional lives of the two become intertwined with their rivalry. The series brings back the nostalgia of the karate kid franchise while making it relevant for modern audiences with great characters and performances.

COBRA KAI SEASON 2

The second season follows the rivalry that was once between the two Dojos, has now been carried over to the students. With opposing methods of fighting and lifestyle that the two dojos are founded upon now, it is up to the students to choose their path.

With both William Zapka and Ralph Macchio trying to live up to the name of their masters they will start recruiting and training the next generation of fighters who will represent their Dojo.

Tensions arise when the students of the rival Dojos starts a war outside the competition which may have everlasting consequences in their personal life and their life inside the Dojo. With amazing performances with the entertaining storyline and emotionally rich character, the second season is equally good.

SEASON 3 STORY

With the second season-ending with the number of questions, it is hard to expect where the third season will lead its prominent characters towards. Since the tone of the series has been on the lighter side it is hard to expect it would take a darker tone with Miguel and his injury following the accident in the season 2 finale.

Xolo Mariduena (Miguel) has confirmed he is back in season 3 through his twitter post on November 19. The tweet congratulated the team behind the Cobra Kai series that read.

“Can NOT wait for you guys to see the amazing work this team has put together. I am thankful for everyone’s hard work and commitment and humbled to be a part of the Cobra Kai family”.

Another important reveal was that part of the filming took place in Okinawa with Johnny and the mystery behind the scene change has not yet been revealed and popular fan theories suggest that we might get the back story of Mr. Miyagi in the upcoming season.

The season 2 finale shows a leadership change in the Cobra Kai Dojo after the John Kreese takeover. Kreese actor Martin Kove has confirmed the fans can expect a lot of action and a lot of leadership from him and his disciples and exciting developments and decisions that the characters will face and this season takes everything a little further into the stories that the fans love.

We can expect William Zabka and Ralph Macchio along with Miguel and the story of Johnny’s son Robby Keen is still a mystery. Robby after training under Daniel LaRusso has fled from the place and his role in the season might be limited as he hurt Miguel who is on life support.

Things might change between Vanessa Rubio and Johnny as her son is hospitalized after representing the Cobra Kai dojo and might hold Johnny responsible for her son’s condition.

Netflix has been tight-lipped about the future of Cobra Kai as fans have been waiting for a while for the third season. With the holidays the fans can expect more information and reveal the upcoming events.
